Career Clusters
Career and Technical Education_______________________________________________________Career ClustersCareer Clusters is a method of organizing careers to help students better understand the opportunities that exist in today’s fast paced modern economy. As technology has shifted the focus of employment from manufacturing to an information economy, the pathway to traditional careers has become blurred. Career Clusters provides a way to organize jobs and work experiences into the following sixteen broad categories that encompass virtually all occupations from entry through professional levels:1. Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources 2. Architecture and Construction 3. Arts, A/V Technology and Communications 4. Business Management and Administration 5. Education and Training 6. Finance 7. Government and Public Administration 8. Health Science 9. Hospitality and Tourism 10. Human Services 11. Information Technology 12. Public Safety, Corrections and Security 13. Manufacturing 14. Marketing, Sales and Service 15. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics 16. Transportation, Distribution and Logistics The CTE Career Planning Guide is currently being developed by the Virginia Department of Education and will incorporate these career clusters into the commonwealth’s education system. Users will be able to connect careers and courses to help prepare and plan for a successful future. This resource is being developed by VDOE. Check out the Virginia Career Resource Network at http://www.vacrn.net/ for more information on careers and career clusters. > back to home |
