Why The Future
is Not What it Used to be

This quote by Linda Moakes illustrates the tremendous rate of change that has affected our society in recent years. One analyst states that there has been more technological change in the last 50 years than in the previous 500. Nowhere is this change more apparent than in the skills required for employment.

Fifty years ago, 65% of the jobs were classified as unskilled. 15% were categorized as technical and just 20% of careers required a college degree.

Notice the changes that have taken place over the last 50 years! Now only 15% of the jobs are for unskilled workers. But technical skills are now required for 65% of available jobs. The percentage of careers requiring college degrees has not changed!

These shifts in skills needed for viable employment have brought deep changes to Career and Technical Education. Courses in CTE today offer options for:

1. funding college tuition
2. supplementing college education
3. receiving free technical training to enter the workforce

Do any of these options interest you? Read on. You will be surprised!
