What Are Your Dreams?

Is Healthcare in your future?

Healthcare is currently the largest industry in America, making up 16% of all the jobs and the industry is going to get even larger. Analysts are predicting that 15 of the top 30 growth jobs of the next decade will be in healthcare. The reason for this steady increase:

1. Life expectancy has risen from the mid-40’s in the early 1900’s to 77.6 today. With people living longer, there are more people to take care of and while living longer, they have more needs than younger adults.

2. As the Baby Boom Generation, those born between 1946 and 1964, ages over the next 30 years, the number of Americans over 65 is expected to double to 70 Million.

3. The death rates from cancer and heart disease, America’s deadliest diseases, have dropped since 2002.

Other factors that indicate a bright future for individuals seeking a career in health care:

1. 16% of all new wage and salary jobs created between 2002 and 2012 will be in health services.

2. While health diagnosticians and treating practitioners will require the greatest education, the majority of the jobs will require less than four years of college.

3. Over 40% of health care employees work in hospitals where 25% of all employees are registered nurses.

4. Over 2 million nurses will be needed in the next 10 years.
