Chesterfield Technical Center Admission Requirements
Chesterfield Technical Center_______________________________________________________Criteria for AdmissionMost students apply to enter the Chesterfield Technical Center during their sophomore year in high school. Students learn about CTC course options in several ways:1. A presentation in January or February is given to sophomores usually through their Health/Physical Education class. A brief description of all thirty courses is presented and students are invited to complete a CTC visitation request form. 2. Students are given the opportunity to visit CTC during the school day. Usually held during the third week of March, Opportunities Day is a chance for students to travel to CTC and visit two courses of their choice. Only students who completed a visitation request form during the CTC presentation at their school may participate. 3. Students and parents are able to attend the Open House usually scheduled from 1 to 3:00 p.m. on the third Sunday in March. Teachers greet students and parents on their self-guided tour and answer questions about their courses and employment opportunities. 4. The CTC website, www.chesterfield.k12.va.us/Schools/CTC provides course descriptions, prerequisite courses and more. While specific requirements exist for each class, selection criteria for all classes are based on the following: 1. Grades 2. Attendance 3. An acceptable behavior record 4. Successful completion of prerequisite courses 5. Teachers’ comments verifying the student’s ability to work independently in unstructured settings. 6. A counselor’s evaluation 7. Standardized test scores Applications are usually submitted no later than the end of March. Course rosters are usually determined by the first of May and notifications are sent to students. Whenever possible, every effort is made to place those students who do not get their first choice into alternate course selections. > back to home |
